PFSense is an open source firewall/router computer software distribution based on FreeBSD. You may use Dynu dynamic DNS service with 'Custom' option for IPv4 address update and 'Custom (v6) for IPv6 updates.

PFSense Dynu Dynamic DNS

From the main menu, select Services then Dynamic DNS . Use the following settings:

  • Service Type : Custom for IPv4 address update, Custom (v6) for IPv6 address update
  • Interface to monitor : WAN
  • Interface to send update from : WAN
  • Username : Leave empty
  • Password : Leave empty
  • URL : Dynu Custom IP Update URL
  • Result Match : good|nochg|good %IP%

    Update one domain name

  • Non SSL: http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?hostname=example.dynu.com&password=PASSWORD
  • SSL Format: https://api.dynu.com/nic/update?hostname=example.dynu.com&password=PASSWORD

    • Update all domains in your account

  • Non SSL: http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD
  • SSL Format: https://api.dynu.com/nic/update?username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD

    • Update an alias

  • Non SSL: http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?hostname=example.dynu.com&alias=Alias&password=PASSWORD
  • SSL Format: https://api.dynu.com/nic/update?hostname=example.dynu.com&alias=Alias&password=PASSWORD

    • Update all hostnames with the same location name

  • Non SSL: http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD&location=LOCATION
  • SSL Format: https://api.dynu.com/nic/update?username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORDD&location=LOCATION

    • 1. You should replace the USERNAME in the URL with your Dynu account username.
    2. The PASSWORD field should be replaced with your Dynu password, IP update password, or MD5/SHA256 encrypted password.
    3. The Location field should be replaced with the location name you assigned to the hostnames.
