do i need a dns if i use static ip? i'm basically interested in viewing my h.264 dvr cctv remotely.

Dynamic DNS service maps a static hostname to a constantly changing IP address. So you do not need dynamic DNS service if you have an IP address that does not change.

You can directly use your IP address to do remote viewing since it remains unchanged. If
do not want to remember the complicated IP address, you can also assign it to an easy to
remember hostname which can be used to connect to your remote camera. You may sign up for
a free hostname at http://www.dynu.com/ControlPanel/AddDDNS
