1
What is DDoS attack?

A DDoS is when a large number of hacked or ill-configured systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system with so much junk traffic that it can no longer serve legitimate visitors.

DNS refers to Domain Name System services. DNS is an essential component of all Web sites, responsible for translating user-friendly website names like “yourdomain.com” into numeric, machine-readable IP addresses. Anytime you browse a Web site, your machine is sending a DNS look-up request to your Internet service provider to help route the traffic.

2
What can DDoS do to a website?

Websites are crucial to most businesses. Your website is down and no visitors will be able to access it under DDoS attack. If someone is looking for a product online and the website turned out to be inaccessible. What would he do? He would immediately go to another website selling the same product. You are likely to lose revenue because of the downtime. Your brand name and reputation will be damaged as well.

3
How to prepare your website for a DDoS attack?

The most cost effective way to prepare your website for a DDoS attack is to diversify your DNS portfolio. You should have 2 or more DNS providers and sync the DNS settings.

For example, if you are currently using your web hosting provider or managed DNS service provider's name servers, you can use our name servers as backup. There are two things that you need to do:

  • Add our master DNS to your domain’s primary DNS zone file to allow transfer and notify so that DNS zones are synced up
  • Add our name servers as backup name servers at your current registrar

If you are using our DNS service as primary, you may add another provider's name servers as a backup as well.
