first of all does this service have any java api? and also I didn't see anything in the protocol section on how to get the ip address from the hostname

What are you looking to do with the API? The IP update protocol is mainly a HTTP method to update IP address for a given domain name.There is also REST API that allows you to add/remove domain name or get an IP address.
