Hello, i am trying to setup my synology diskstation and Dynu is not on there list, so I am having to add it manually. It is asking for a Query URL. Can you provide that for me? Thanks

You may follow the settings at https://www.dynu.com/DynamicDNS/IPUpdateClient/SynologyNAS to set up Synology DDNS.

You no longer have to SSH into the NAS to add a custom DDNS provider. Go to: Control Panel > external access > customize and enter the following:
Service Provider: Dynu.com
Query URL: http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?hostname=__HOSTNAME__&username=__USERNAME__&myip=__MYIP__&password=__PASSWORD__

Done. Will register like a champ...

Has anyone had success with this? I'm still getting 'Failed to connect to the server' error msg.
Thanks

You should put only the following in the 'Query URL' field:

http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?hostname=__HOSTNAME__&username=__USERNAME__&myip=__MYIP__&password=__PASSWORD__

Works perfect.

Step by step
1. In Synology web interface go to Control Panel
2. Click on External Access
3. Now you should be on DDNS page. Up top you will find buttons ADD, EDIT, DELETE, CUSTOMISE etc.
4. Click on CUSTOMISE
--> See attached image:1 it shows above four steps
5. Now, in the service provider box type in dynu.com
6. in the Query URL type in: http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?
7. Save.
--> See attached image:2 it shows step 5-6-7
8. Now, you should be back to DDNS screen.
9. Click on ADD button & add your details.
--> See attached image:3 for steps 8 & 9

Thank you so much, it works!!!!!

The key is to use the link mentioned in the tutorial: http://api.dynu.com/nic/update?

I tried other URL in other threads every time it comes back with an authentication failure.

Thank you so much!

http://api.dynu.com/nic/update? is working fine for me, but updates ALL DNS names in my account. So I'm using https://api.dynu.com/nic/update?hostname=__HOSTNAME__&__MYIP__, which also works fine on DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 2.

2 Things to consider:

  • Use https instead of http, otherwise your account password is sent in plain text over the internet.
  • Even better use a hash of your password. You can google something like 'powershell md5 hash from string' or something...

Hi.
Sorry to re-open the topic. I've followed all the steps and I have everything configured correctly in my NAS. However, it doesn't seem to work when trying to connect directly through the external DNS name. Any idea on how to troubleshoot this ?

Thanks,
PPP.
