abc.XYZ - Google's killer URL

When you are the world's dominant internet company, you need a great URL. Google announced a new holding company called Alphabet on Monday, and it’s using the domain name abc.XYZ.

Curious from Google's part was the fact that the company didn't use the alphabet.com domain for its new business. The reason is that domain name alphabet.com already belonged to someone else - the German automaker BMW, who, unlike a domain squatter or some other smaller company, isn't interested in selling its long-established domain name. BMW uses alphabet.com to host the website for its fleet service offering, which operates in 18 countries and provides around 530,000 vehicles to various corporate entities. Micaela Sandstede, a BMW spokeswoman in Munich described the website as a “very active” part of Alphabet’s business.

DOT XYZ
abc.XYZ, however, is still a great domain name. .XYZ is instinctive, natural and makes sense. Anyone can use .XYZ for any purpose. It’s for users who value affordability and recognition first without sacrificing flexibility. Alphabet chose .xyz for the same reason. As emphasized by Larry Page, Alphabet wants to catch up with the revolutionary ideas driving next big growth areas, they have to step out of the comfort zone and embrace the new changes.

Typically 3000 .XYZ domains get registered each day. It has approximately tripled that rate in the 48 hours after Goggle launched abc.XYZ. Register your own .XYZ domain name before it is taken!
